The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Who We Are How We Work Countries Open data | Open for business Many EITI implementing countries have been adversely affected by a triple crisis – the Covid-19 pandemic, low and volatile commodity prices and decreased revenues from the extractive sector. Providing support is a priority for the EITI during this period. This is why we created the Covid-19 Resource Centre, which includes guidance on EITI flexible reporting, revised Validation schedules and useful tools to support EITI implementing countries. This edition presents success stories of transparency across the extractives sector value chain in more than 20 countries, from the disclosure of extractives agreements to the monitoring of revenue transfers to local communities. Read the report Transparency in Transition - Climate Change, Energy Transition and the EITI The transition to a sustainable, decarbonised economy is now reshaping the extractive industries. It will have profound implications for the kinds of data, disclosures and dialogues that will be required to support accountability and good governance. Building on a series of discussions with EITI stakeholders that started in June 2019, this paper explores the implications of the transition to a sustainable, decarbonised economy for countries implementing the EITI. Read the report Improving transparency and governance along the value chain Guided by the belief that a country’s natural resources belong to its citizens, the EITI established a global standard to promote the open and accountable management of oil, gas and mineral resources. The EITI Standard requires the disclosure of information along the extractive industry value chain, from how extraction rights are awarded, to how revenues make their way through the government and how they benefit the public. By doing so, the EITI seeks to strengthen public and corporate governance, promote understanding of natural resource management and provide the data to inform reforms for greater transparency and accountability in the extractives sector. In each of the 53 implementing countries, the EITI is supported by a coalition of government, companies and civil society.
